Moods, say the experts, are feelings that are likely to become fixed, having effects on on
e’ s outlook (way of looking at things )for hours, days or even weeks. That’ s great if your mood is a pleasant one,but a problem if you are sad, anxious, angry or simply lonely.

Perhaps the best way to deal with such moods is to talk them out ;sometimes, though, there is no one to listen. Modem pharmacology (药物学)offers a lot tranquilizers (镇定剂)and anti-anxiety drugs. What many people don’ t realize, however, is that scientists have discovered the effectiveness of several non-drug methods to make you free from an unwanted mood. These can be just as useful as drugs, and have the added benefit of being nonpoisonous. So next time you feel out of sorts, don’ t head for the drug store—try the following method.

Of all the mood-changing self-help techniques, aerobic exercise seems to be the best cure for a bad mood. “If you could keep the exercise, you’d be in high spirits,’’says Kathryn Lance, author of Running for Health and Beauty.

Researchers have explained biochemical and various other changes that make exercise compare favorably to drugs as mood-raiser. Physical work such as housework, however, does little. The key is aerobic exercise—running, cycling, walking, swimming, or other repetitive and sustained activities that increase the heart rate and circulation(循环),and improve the body’s use of oxygen. Do them for at least 20 minutes a time, three to five times a week. What is the main subject of the passage?

A.How to beat a bad mood

B.How to talk bad moods out.

C.How to do physical exercises.

D.How to do aerobic exercise

It can be inferred from the passage that_____.A.when one is in a bad mood,he or she may not work very well

B.the best way to overcome a bad mood is to talk to oneself

C.some drugs are more effective than physical exercises

D.taking drugs is at the risk of being poisonous

“Feel out of sorts”,as it is used in the second paragraph, could best be replaced byA.put things in order

B.are in a bad mood

C.search for tranquilizers

D.want a mood-raiser

Most people would define optimism as endlessly happy, with a glass that’s perpetually half
fall. But that’s exactly the kind of false deerfulness that positive psychologists wouldn’t recommend. “Healthy optimists means being in touch with reality.” says Tal Ben-Shahar, a Harvard professor, According to Ben- Shalar, realistic optimists are these who make the best of things that happen, but not those who believe everything happens for the best.

Ben-Shalar uses three optimistic exercisers. When he feels down-sag, after giving a bad lecture-he grants himself permission to be human. He reminds himself that mot every lecture can be a Nobel winner; some will be less effective than others. Next is reconstruction, He analyzes the weak lecture, leaning lessons, for the future about what works and what doesn’t. Finally, there is perspective, which involves acknowledging that in the ground scheme of life, one lecture really doesn’t matter.

Nursing at Beth Israel Hospital the best patient care possible. If we are to solve the nur
sing shortage, hospital administration and doctors everywhere would do well to follow Beth Israel's example.

What the doctor at Beth Israel has in the primary nurse is a true colleague.

Nursing at Beth Israel also involves a decentralized nursing administration; Every floor, every unit is a self-contained organization. There are nurse-managers instead of head nurse; in addition to their medical duties they do all their own hiring and dismissing, employee advising, and they make salary recommendations. Each unit's nurses decide among themselves who will work what shifts and when.

Cindy Hess began her automotive career as a Design and Development Engineer with Chrysler,
in the fall of 1977. Today, she is Vice-President of Daimler Chrysler, and head of the Small Car Platform. Engineering Department which is directly responsible for the design and development of the Neon, Doge Viper, and all future small cars.

"Many different departments are involved, in bringing a product to market," said Hess, referring to the 2000 Neon. "A company looks into renewing a particular vehicle when its marketplace demand is good, and the profits increase our shareholder's value," explained Hess. "We look to our market research in determining which options we'll keep the same or delete, and which ones we want to add to improve our appeal."

Now that the Neon 2000 is on the market, her team will use survey and research results to determine which option packages work best for the consumer, and what improvements, if any, need to be made. And the best goes on.

Hess supervises 1 200 engineers while managing a successful life as wife and mother. Her secret, she said, is to "always try to give 150 percent in everything I do. The only way I can really balance my work and family is 'by cheating at both ends'. " "For example," Hess said, "I always take my boys to school on the first day of the year--so I come in a little late. A few times a year I leave work for a couple of hours to see my son in a play or to attend his swim meet."

Like most other successful women in the auto industry, Hess's day begins early and ends late. In her case, coaching her son's basketball game ends some of Hess's days. "Occasionally," she adds," I come in to work on the weekends to catch up on paperwork and mail and have also been known to be called to work while I am on vacation."

What is Cindy's chief responsibility now?

A.Renewing promising car models.

B.Supervising production.

C.Doing market research.

D.Developing small cars.

A group of people who share the same interests and way of life is called a society. Sociol
ogy is the science that examines human society. The term sociology is derived from the Latin word socius, which means "companion, union of people".

(80) Sociologists are interested in how a society began and how it grew. They also study the levels within a society. For example, the child is part of the family, the family is part of the neighborhood, and the neighborhood is part of the community. There are many different groups, and sociologists are interested in the effect that these groups have on people.

A Frenchman named Auguste Comte made sociology a separate science in the 1830s. He suggested that a new science was necessary to study a society of people. A famous book, Principles of Sociology, was published by an Englishman, Herbert Spencer, in 1882. This book had an unprecedented (史无前例的) effect on the science of sociology. In this book, Spencer theorized that a society's customs evolved, or grew, from very simple to more complicated and advanced. This theory shows the influence that Charles Darwin (who believed that man had evoked from very simple forms to the present human) had on Spencer.

What is the best title for this passage?

A.Society.

B.People's Interests.

C.Society in Different Nations.

D.Sociology.
